Gunnarson competed at Hartford Nationals, the largest and longest standing national championship for adaptive track and field athletes. At the meet, Gunnarson won National titles in the 100m, 200m, 800m, 100m Special (all age groups), and the 800m medley relay. He also finished as the runner-up in the 400m, 5000m, discus and javelin. On top of all of that, he also added a bronze medal in the 1500m.

Gunnarson set a new U20 U.S. Record in the 200m with a time of 27.99 which beat Tyler Byers record of 28.01 from 1999.
